All you need to know about The Dubdi Monastery in Yuksom
This beautifully designed and artistically decorated monastery is another pilgrimage site for the retreating souls located at an elevated height of 7000 feet above the sea level. This beautiful Buddhist monastery is also referred to as Yuksom Monastery owing to its location in Yuksom. The monastery underwent its construction during the year of 1701 and is said to be named after its founder Lhatsun Namkha Jigme. The monastery follows the traditions, rules and ethics of the Tibetan Buddhism of the Nyingma Sect. The monastery and its construction is considered to be pivotal in the history of Sikkim.
The Dubdi Monastery is a part of the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit involving the Norbugang Chorten, Pemayangtse Monastery, the Rabdentse Ruins, the Sanga Choeling Monastery, the Khecheopalri Lake and the Tashiding Monastery. One of the oldest monastery in Sikkim owing to the early year of construction. The holy abode is located atop a hill that requires pilgrims to walk to retreat in its reminiscence. Also called as Hermit’s cell; the founder of this monastery and two other lamas from Tibet met in Yuksom.
Entreatingly constructed with all bewitching paintings and idols of various divine saints. There is a very elaborate collection of manuscripts and texts housed inside. The figurines of the three lamas responsible for establishing the stone of the monastery are also placed here. The two stored structure is square in plan adorned on a ridge amidst the chestnut woodland is a must visit during your visit to Sikkim. A short trek or a walk could lead you to the Dubdi Monastery. The place is interestingly provocative for religious and spiritual souls who love exploring the history of a place.
